The only flaw in Arizona's new immigration law
is that it was enacted
some 460,000 illegal immigrants too late. Had the federal government
effectively done its job to protect America's borders from foreign
invasion, it would not have taken Senate Bill 1070 to remind this
administration, and those with a sanctuary city mentality, what the
definition of illegal is.
SB1070 requires authorities to ask for
identification or proof of
immigration status if they suspect that someone, of any race, is in the
country illegally. There must be reasonable suspicion involved, not
based on skin color, but on the actions of the individual. The law
reiterates much of existing federal illegal immigration law, and most of
the police in Arizona intend to back up it up with action.
The position that this bill is about racial
profiling and not the
enforcement of illegal immigration laws is patently false. Police
routinely ask any person engaging in unlawful or suspicious behavior for
identification and, with few exceptions, police in every city in the
U.S are committed to protecting and serving their communities. To assume
that racism is the motivation of the police in Arizona is not only
disingenuous, it's ignorant.
Playing the race card is just another left-wing
incendiary attempt to
prevent Arizona from exercising its legal right to enforce the law.
Current headlines fraudulently expound that this law will allow
authorities to demand, like Nazis, the papers of any person who has
brown skin even if they are just mowing their lawn or taking the kids
out for ice cream. Liberal lemmings need to stop responding with
uniformed reflexes of emotion and read the law.
The law clearly states, "A law enforcement
official or agency of this
state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this
state may not solely consider race, color or national origin in
implementing the requirements of this subsection except to the extent
permitted by the United States or Arizona constitution."
And it continues, "This section shall be
implemented in a manner
consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the
civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and immunities
of United States citizens."
Race baiting is the typical fuel of choice for
liberal protest
groups. With some exceptions, they are more interested in maintaining a
Democratic voting bloc than alleviating the slave labor conditions of
illegal immigrants or the legitimate economic and safety concerns of
Americans.
If President Obama had a constitutional
backbone, he would enforce
immigration laws and stop pandering to Hispanic voters. If you recall
his 2008 stump speech to La Raza supporters, you can understand his
hesitation. He said, "Make no mistake about it '" the Latino
community
holds this election in your hands. ... I know how powerful this
community is. Together, we won't just win an election; we will
transform
this nation."
Obama is definitely living up to is his promise
to transform this
nation, so much so that he has woken up the often silent majority of
citizens who are now on guard to protect the freedom of Americans from
an over-reaching federal government.
Protesters are boycotting all things Arizona
and decrying the
validity of "reasonable suspicion" and the integrity of law
enforcement
officials. At the same time, they are demanding from Americans
unreasonable tolerance towards illegal immigrants.
This new Arizona law is not a racist
anti-immigrant law; it is not
about a lack of empathy for the plight of Mexicans seeking a better
life. This law is an anti-illegal immigrant law that simply seeks to
enforce federal law to protect Americans.
The Federation for American Immigrant Reform
defines the current
situation aptly. President Dan Stein said: "Faced with mounting costs,
lost jobs and violent crime resulting from mass illegal immigration,
Gov. Brewer has acted responsibly to protect Arizonians. In signing
SB1070, Gov. Brewer has responded to the will of the people and risen
above the incendiary rhetoric of those who are maliciously attempting to
divide Arizonians along ethnic lines."
Seven other states are now considering
legislation similar to
Arizona's. Perhaps this wake-up call will increase the enforcement of
immigration laws. Only then can we put the welfare of Americans before
the appeasement of those who do not have enough respect for America to
enter the country legally.
